Clinical Effects of Sertraline to Depressive Symptoms


Abstract
the clinical effects of sertraline to depressive symptoms was studied with a group of 14 patients, who DSM-III-R criteria of major depression and dysthymia.
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN 1. There was a significant statistical decrement of total score of HAM-D, BDI and severity of CGI compared to baseline after sertraline was administered.
2. During 6 weeks of administration of sertraline, significant decrement began in 2 weeks and showed the most prominent antidepressant effects after 6 weeks of sertraline doses, and the most remarkable improvement was between 2 weeks and 4
weeks.
3. Among the items of HAM-D, depressive feelings, emotional anxiety, somatic anxiety, work and activity, gastrointestinal somatic symptoms, hypochondriasis, and weight loss were improved significantly and depressive feelings, somatic anxiety and
emotional anxiety and tendency to improve after 2 weeks, and gastrointestinal symptoms and genital symptoms had a tendency to improve after 4 weeks.
4. Side effects were a few and not serious, such as dyspepsia, nausea, diarrhea, and insomnia and most of them disappeared as the treatment continued. Also, there wasn't changes in body weight.
